As I sit down to write this post, I’m practicing what I’m about to preach: Just getting it done, even when I don’t feel particularly inspired.
And that’s exactly what I want to talk with you about today.
The Power of Three Simple Words: JUST DO IT.
You know Nike’s famous slogan.
It’s been around since 1988—nearly 40 years of those three words inspiring millions.
But why does it work so powerfully?
Research into this iconic phrase reveals something fascinating: the power lies not in “Do It,” but in the single word that precedes it—JUST.
That word is POWERFUL.
It’s what makes the difference between planning to change and actually making a change.
JUST: The Word That Changes Everything
When we say “just do it,” we’re eliminating…
…all the mental noise.
…all the negotiations we have with ourselves.
…all the “maybe tomorrow”
…all the “I’ll start Monday”
…all the “when I feel more motivated.”
JUST means: RIGHT NOW.
Regardless of how you feel.
Without debate.
Without waiting for the “perfect time”.
IT’S THE DECISION TO STOP LEAVING YOUR HEALTH UP TO YOUR FEELINGS IN THE MOMENT.
Why This Matters for Your Health Journey
Basing your actions on your “feelings” is not always a great way to create the momentum and consistency needed for health.
Your feelings come from your internal motivations, and human internal motivations rely on the desire to rest, avoid pain and seek pleasure. The exact opposite of what you need for great health.
Your feelings will tell you to…
… stay put on the sofa (internal motivation to seek rest).
… skip the exercise (internal motivation to avoid pain).
… eat that extra serving of dessert, just because you feel like it,
(internal motivation to seek pleasure).
Weight loss and wellbeing don’t happen when you feel like it. T
They happen when you do it anyway, despite how you’re feeling.
It’s like going to school or going to work. We do it, even when we don’t feel like it, anyway.
Just Do It: Your New Health Mantra
- Don’t feel like going to your appointments? Come anyway.
• Don’t want to meal prep on Sunday? Do it anyway.
• Not motivated to exercise today? Move anyway.
I’m not asking you to be perfect. I’m asking you to be present. To show up. To JUST do it, even—especially—when you don’t want to.
Because here’s the truth: the feeling of motivation usually comes AFTER you start, not before. You don’t wait to feel like walking—you start walking, and then the exercise joy kicks in. You don’t wait to feel proud of your choices—you make choices that support your wellbeing, and then the pride follows.
The top objection I hear to the above (And why it’s just an excuse)
Let me be honest with you about the number one objection I hear constantly:
“I’m too busy right now. I don’t have time. I’ll do it later. “
I’ve been practicing medicine long enough to know the truth: things never settle down.
There will always be work deadlines, family obligations, busy seasons, and unexpected chaos.
The question isn’t whether you have time—it’s whether your health is going to stay at the bottom of your priority list.
My Challenge to You This Week
This week, I want you to catch yourself every time you’re about to make a health decision based on how you feel at that moment.
Notice it. Then remember: JUST do it.
- Drink the water. Eat the vegetables. Take the walk.
• Show up for yourself, even when—especially when—you don’t feel like it.
And if you’re not yet a patient? Stop waiting for the “right time” to get support for your wellbeing. It doesn’t exist.
Just pick up the phone and schedule your new patient visit. Today. Right now. Before you close this email and forget about it.
A Personal Note
As I mentioned at the start, even writing this newsletter was an act of “just doing it.” Did I feel inspired when I started? Not particularly. But I sat down anyway. I typed anyway. And here we are.
That’s the practice. That’s the discipline. That’s how we build the lives and the health we want—one “just do it” moment at a time.
You don’t need to wait for motivation. You don’t need to feel ready. You just need to do the next right thing.
I believe in you. Now it’s time for you to just show up for yourself.
Rooting for you—and yes, I mean that literally. 😊
Out in the Community: YMCA Halloween Fun!
This past week, our team had a blast at the YMCA Halloween event! I got to embrace my inner child (and my outer clown) as the head clown, bringing smiles and maybe a few surprised laughs to families throughout the evening. We gave out treats to kids and our new exercise bands to the adults. Also if you need Halloween inspired recipes, check out our previous blog post.
What's New This Week in Obesity Medicine.
The Definition of Obesity is Expanding
Harvard researchers just revealed that using measurements beyond BMI—like waist circumference—obesity prevalence jumps from 40% to 70%. Why it matters: those “newly identified” individuals have higher risks of diabetes and heart disease. The old approach was missing people who needed help.

2026: A Game-Changing Year for Medications
The next generation of weight loss medications is almost here:
• Retatrutide (triple-hormone): Average 58-pound weight loss
• Oral semaglutide: Up to 15% weight loss—no needles needed
• MariTide: 20% weight loss at one year with no plateau

But keep in mind, injectable anti-obesity medications like Wegovy or Zepbound aren’t the only medications available. There are also tried and true methods such as Phentermine, Qsymia and Contrave too! Read more on Medical Weight Loss.
Better Access on the Horizon
With supply stabilizing and oral options launching, experts predict better insurance coverage and lower prices in 2026-2027. Currently, 14% of households use GLP-1s, but 24% more would consider them if prices drop.
Bottom Line: We’re living through a revolution in obesity medicine. Obesity is a chronic disease with biological roots—not a character flaw. And we have more proven treatments than ever.
If you’ve been waiting for “the right time” to address your weight, that time is now. Don’t wait for things to get worse. The best treatment is the one you start today.
