Keep Your Weight Loss Resolutions Beyond January:
Yesterday, I was thinking about the goals I’ve made for myself in the New Year. Funny enough, my actions to reach my goals have fallen
At Weight Sense Lake Nona we recognize that weight management is a personal journey as such we emphasize creating a respectful environment, create a unique
plan for each patient and are true partners in patient’s health.
We start with a 360 Wellness evaluation and assessment of your health to identify underlying medical issues that impact weight management and also to diagnose diseases related to obesity. We will obtain necessary labs, complete body composition analysis on our InBody 570 scale and conduct a physical exam which may also include an EKG.
There are many different dietary options that work, but the right one will depend on the individual patient. Our focus goes beyond calories, as all calories are not created equal. We help our patients move from a diet of fast food, refined grains and sugars towards eating more high quality whole foods. Meal replacement strategies can also be incorporated for effective weight loss and weight maintenance.
Tailored physical activity prescriptions to meet your
needs and abilities.
We focus on long-term success by listening and collaborating with our patients to make lasting changes. We hope to guide our
patients towards consistent and restful sleep at night, incorporate daily stress reduction practices into life, avoid risky substances and emphasize positive social connection.
Prescription anti-obesity medications are evidence-based tools that support the physiologic and behavior changes necessary for sustained weight loss. Weight loss medications are safe and effective when used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan that includes nutrition, physical activity and behavior modification. Medications can be regular or intermittent and may be necessary for long-term maintenance. Medications alter physiology and behaviors to decrease hunger, appetite, increase satiety and decrease cravings. The goal of therapy is long-term favorable health outcomes.
Bariatric surgery is a non pharmacological treatment option for patients with obesity. Before having a bariatric procedure, many patients need to complete a medically supervised weight loss program. Weight Sense Lake Nona’s comprehensive obesity program can help you on this journey.

It is designed to help individuals lose weight and improve their overall health and wellness.
Direct care or concierge specialty care is a practice model that promotes the Physician-Patient relationship by removing third-party care (like insurance companies) from the equation. This model is changing how medicine is delivered across the nation. When you become a patient at Weight Sense Lake Nona, you receive customized, accessible, and high-quality care from Dr. Shah, a renowned obesity medicine physician in Orlando, Fl. You will be able to spend more time developing a personal relationship with your doctor to feel seen and heard so that you can get the answers you need and access the tools you seek so you’re on the path to healthy living sooner rather than later.
Your first visit with Dr. Shah will be 60 minutes in person. Your wait time will be minimal and we strive to start your visit on time. Dr. Shah loves her first visit with patients as it is the stepping stone towards achieving greater health. The goal of the visit will be to determine what is driving your weight gain, blocking your weight loss, and creating your personal plan to reach your BEST WEIGHT. You’ll receive a comprehensive review of your personal medical history and lifestyle, a detailed physical exam, and an InBody 570 Body Composition Analysis. During the visit, your weight loss plan will be created, including guidance on nutrition, physical activity, mindset, and lifestyle changes. You’ll also receive prescriptions for appropriate medications (if you seek medication support).
The goal while working with Dr. Shah will be to help you reach your best weight. This is the weight where you feel good in your body and a weight where you can enjoy your life and lifestyle in a manner that feels right to you. Your best weight is not reaching a “normal BMI”. It s reaching a weight that makes sense to you— where your health, well-being and personal lifestyle are optimized. Where the risk of chronic disease are reduced and medical conditions are controlled. Your best weight is reached when you’re feeling vibrant in your body and are enjoying the lifestyle that you’re living.
The goal is to achieve a 5-10% body weight loss over six months for improved metabolic health. Non-scale victories such as better mobility and increased energy are also important indicators of progress.
