About Dr. Shah
Nikita B. Shah, DO
Do you know this feeling like I do?
You are intentional about being the best version of yourself in all your roles – at work, at home, with your family, within your community, and in your body.
Then one day you find yourself with your heart sinking deeper and deeper in your chest. A profound sense of defeat and shame comes over you because it seems no matter what you do the scale won’t budge. Maybe it hits you while you’re sitting in your car at a traffic light, or while you’re looking in the mirror.
I remember the days I didn’t recognize what I saw in my reflection. I was proud of all that I’d accomplished in my life, but peering into that mirror all I could think was, “I can figure out how to succeed in all these other areas of my life, but I can’t figure out my weight? What gives?”
As a physician, I know how central a healthy weight is to one’s future wellness and quality of life. As I counseled my patients through their health struggles, I was worried about my own. I felt doomed to dodging hunger unsuccessfully for the rest of my life.
You see…I’ve been there, too. But I have good news for you…
- You are not to blame
- You can lose weight
- You don’t lack self-control
And I’m here to lead you to your weight loss success and all its benefits.
Hi! I’m Dr. Nikita Shah, an evidence-based obesity medicine physician and certified weight loss coach. Through my years as a family medicine physician, I found myself treating patients daily for the downstream effects of obesity: diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and high cholesterol.
Like my patient’s with obesity, I too was battling fatigue, low energy, body aches, and poor sleep. I didn’t feel like myself anymore. I felt blah all the time. I knew my weight was to blame, but dieting and tracking calories had me hangry all the time. It was starting to drag other aspects of my life down with it: I wasn’t my best self anymore.
At the peak of my frustration, I was 30 pounds overweight and had been losing and gaining the same five pounds year after year. So I decided to become the professional I needed – the professional my patients needed, too. A physician that didn’t only treat the side effects of obesity, but who targets the root cause of so much illness – obesity itself.
I dove headfirst into studying the medicine and the mindset needed for permanent weight loss, and I lost the 30 pounds I had been struggling to shed. I am living, breathing evidence that obesity medicine and coaching works. It worked for me, countless of my family medicine patients, and now I partner with people like you to achieve their own weight loss victories.
In the process of continually striving the best that I can be for myself, my patients and community I certified as a diplomate to the American Board of Obesity Medicine. There are fewer than 6000 doctors specializing in obesity and overweight healthcare in the U.S. and I’m one of them. I’m also am a certified life coach because in my experience many of us know what to do, but it’s the HOW to do it that gets us stuck.
When I’m not in the exam room treating patients, I spend my professional time serving as a member of the House of Delegates for the Florida Medical Association. I’m also a member of the Karl M. Altenburger, MD Physician Leadership Academy and I serve on the Board of Directors for the Physician Society of Central Florida. I also am a best-selling co-author of the book Made for More: Physician Entrepreneurs Who Live Life and Practice Medicine on Their Own Terms.
And at the center of everything I do— I’m a wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend.
