Understanding the Mind-Body Connection: When it comes to weight and eating, many people aren’t aware of the impact their thoughts and emotions have on their eating habits. They may find themselves blindly following their thoughts or using food as a way to distract themselves from certain emotions.

The Power of Awareness: Increased awareness is key to transformation. By becoming more aware of our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, we can start making changes without trying too hard. Awareness is the first and most important step towards lifelong transformation.

Mindfulness and Meditation: Mindfulness is often described as being fully present in the moment without judgment. It’s a natural human quality that exists within all of us. Meditation, on the other hand, is a formal practice that allows us to cultivate mindfulness. It’s a journey from activity into stillness, providing us with a deeper connection to ourselves and the world around us.  Often meditation can be used as a tool to enhance mindfulness and this can be beneficial to those who want to be more aware of their moment-to-moment decisions around their well-being.

Bringing Awareness to Everyday Situations: Dr. Rashmi gives an example of being stuck in traffic to illustrate the power of awareness. Instead of getting caught up in negative thoughts and stress, she encourages us to take a deep breath and notice the thoughts that arise. By simply being aware of our thoughts, we can choose how we respond to them. We can either follow them and become more stressed or let go of control and find calmness in the present moment. This inadvertently would result in a better response to stress and less reactive stress eating.
